It’s the end of school year for most, which means only one thing . . .
It’s time to plan for the new school year!
Some of you are new to homeschooling and have no idea where to begin. Others of you are unhappy with what you’ve been using and wonder what else is out there. And many of you are perfectly happy with what you have, but wouldn’t mind adding something new to your homeschool days.
So, I thought I would take a moment and share with you Top Ten Homeschool Companies. These are the companies that provide the meat of our homeschool. They are companies that I always seem to fall back on whenever I’m looking for something new to do. Where applicable, I’ll share my favorite products from each company, but overall, if they are on this list, you can trust most anything they sell.
In no particular order . . .
1. Home School Adventure Co. — We discovered HSA this past year, and I have never been so grateful. Stacy Farrell has written curriculum that helps me successfully teach critical thinking skills, history, writing, Bible memorization, and more . . . all with a biblical worldview. The flagship curriculum, Philosophy Adventure, will be the spine of our homeschool next year. We’ve already been using Philippians in 28 Weeks and The Wise Woman with Literary Analysis Questions. The newest resource from HSA is the Mere Christianity Critical Analysis Journal. That one is for me.

2. Unit Studies by Amanda Bennett — We’ve used Amanda’s unit studies for years. I think I own everything she’s ever written and we’ve used most all of it. This summer, Ben and I will be learning more about Digital Photography. But our favorites are the Patriotic Unit Studies, Horses, and Space.
3. NaturExplorers — Sometimes we explore nature just by going outside with a drawing pad and pencils. But most of the time, that turns into playtime unless we have something in mind to study. That’s why we love NaturExplorers. Inside each of these units you’ll find a plethora of learning opportunities. Our favorites are Beautiful Birds, Everchanging Erosion, Incredible Creeks, and Wonderful Wildflowers.
4. Apologia — We love all things Apologia at our house. Their Science and Apologetics curricula have greatly enriched our homeschool. And my very favorite book about homeschooling is published here, Educating the WholeHearted Child by Clay and Sally Clarkson.
5. Classical Academic Press — This company has my favorite Bible curriculum for kids, God’s Great Covenant, and we have really enjoying their Spanish DVD program, Spanish for Children.
6. Homeschool in the Woods — If you are looking for a great, hands-on history program, loaded with activities and a ginormous lapbook AND notebook to make, you’ll love Time Travelers. Ben’s love for Civil War history began here! They also have the best timeline figures ever.
7. NotebookingPages.com — This is hands down one of my favorite homeschool resources ever. As we have moved from lapbooking to more notebooking, I have been able to find most anything I want here for every subject and the pages are really lovely. She just launched a new product that I am really excited about — The Notebooking Publisher. Now you can type onto the notebooking pages yourself!

8. Diana Waring Presents — I purchased Ancient Civilizations and the Bible on a whim 2 years ago, and today Ben still listens to the audio CDs at least once a month. We’ll be working through Romans, Reformers, and Revolutionaries next year, at his request. We’ll also be adding in the Binder Builder from A Journey Through Learning (another favorite for us!)
9. Lamplighter Publishing — not really a curriculum company, but Lamplighter carries my favorite books for Ben to read and for me to read aloud. Their newest product, Lamplighter Theatre is amazing as well.! Some of my favorite books for boys purchased here include, The Hedge of Thorns, The White Knights, Little Sir Galahad, Joel: A Boy of Galilee, and Charlie’s Choice. {use code LAMP160 to receive 15% any regularly priced items}.
10. Greathall Productions (Jim Weiss audio books) — Nothing enriches our homeschool more that listening to Jim Weiss tells stories. In the past 2 weeks alone, we have been mesmerized by Women in Blue or Gray, Abraham Lincoln and the Heart of America, and Tales from the Old Testament.
